Ok... so 8/20 a friend came into town, this wasn't going to stop me from working out, but a collision of other events managed to... went out and had a great time without working out, no big deal.

8/23, 8/25 and 8/27 we worked out, I have the notes out in the garage on the whiteboard, but all said and done this week saw a new record for my squats and deadlift... I managed to match my bench press but not surpass it, no real suprise there since we've been working our core and legs a lot...

8/28 I got up @ 4am and drove to Wyoming for vacation. It was awesome, amazing, and even though I felt like I ate like a pig the whole time, I actually didn't gain any weight! I'm slowly but surely working my way through the 330 range, I tend to bounce a +/- 5-10lbs due to water weight... but I've stopped bouncing OVER the 340 range and am solidly into the 330's and still going down nice and slowly.

8/30 I was in Wyoming, I didn't exercise per say, but we did walk about 8 miles in Yellowstone that day...

9/1 I returned home, I was in a car all day... on the road @ 8am and home by midnight... brutal drive.

9/2 Kim & I bought a nice big Chest Freezer... and Art helped me haul it down stairs...

9/3... I didn't work out again... however I was running a 2 man auger with Art Deojay, pouring concrete, building my deck frame, etc... we put in a good 10 hours of hard work, then when Torrey, Brett and Andrew showed up to work out we did some "new" exercises... We did the "Move the 2x10's", the "Move the Cedar Decking", the "Move the 50lb bags of Quikrete" and finally the "Load the 2 Man Auger back into the Truck"... I had the others finish out with 5 sets of 5 slosh tube zercher squats, which I passed on.

9/4 we build the rest of the deck. I woke up @ 6am and started screwing in the joist hangers by 7am... and we had all the joists hung, decking down and secured, and the tools cleaned up by 5pm... at which point we celebrated with steak and beer...

Oh yea, 9/3 Kim comes to me and tells me the Washer is broken... I look at it, no spin, no agitate... so I poke at it some, tear it apart, find out it isn't a belt driven model but rather has a transmission... so we went back to Sears and bought a new Washer and Drier, front loading high efficiency models... based on what it cost to do laundry today @ Duds n Suds they will pay out in just over 1.5 years, and that doesn't include the savings we'll see on our water bill as well as the rebates we'll be getting for it (Delivery gets refunded, a mid american rebate, and I need to look into it but maybe some benefit to our taxes).

So today, 9/5... today we party like it's 2010 and Labor Day Weekend. I have a rocking deck to host on, and I fully intend to enjoy it!

As far back as I can remember I've been a slacker; I guess it's just in my nature. When given the unsupervised opportunity I'll do as little as possible to get the job done, and stop just the far side of success. Over the years I've fought this in many ways, finding motivations as I can to ensure I don't just do the minimum to succeed.

My friends will tell you that over the past decade I've tried to lose weight many different times. I've done low carb, I've done cardio, I've done weight training, and I've even done nothing. I've yo-yo'd my weight over and over, and each time I'd end up a little higher than the last. Starting in 1995 @ 235lbs when I got out of the military and peaking in 2009 @ 385lbs.

At that peak I had gained so much weight that my 46" waste pants barely buttoned. What made this worse was they were 46" with the elastic bands on the side, so closer to 48" pants at their max, and I could barely fit into them. I was miserable, and I chose to do something about it. Since I was going to start exercising, and I didn't want to hurt myself I consulted my doctor... it was then I discovered I was diabetic.

I assume the diabetes was new at this point, because inside of a week my vision got better, an then went so far down the "worse" scale that I couldn't see large text on my 28" monitor. I couldn't read my alarm clock (2" vertical display) without glasses, and my prescription changed so much in the following 90 days that I went through 3 sets of lenses. I went from a +.5 to a -2.5 spherical lense... in a week!

So motivation was set, I wanted my vision back, I wanted to live a productive life, I wanted to lose weight and I wasn't going to fail this time. The stakes were too high for failure to be an option. I immediately and drastically changed my diet, and I had my blood sugar under control without medication within 90 days. An awesome side effect of eating right, my weight started melting away.

So around 350lbs we bought a house that needed a lot of yard work done. I started out slow, I could barely work for 30 minutes without being completely winded, but I didn't let that stop me because I had a mission. By the end of May I could work for a few hours at a time without being spent. I had dropped down to 340lbs, a weight that would haunt me for nearly two months.

Early in June we had a bonfire, and while under the influence of a beer too many I boasted to my friends that I had a decent home gym and challenged them to come over so we could work out together. A few said they would come over, but I figured it was just the beer talking.

Monday came and Brian showed up. We setup the equipment in the garage. I didn't have a lot at this point, just enough to do a simple workout. I had some basics researched on a good fat burning workout. It hurt, but not in a bad way, it was the feeling of muscles being woke up that hadn't been used in years.

I checked Craigslist and found some more equipment. I checked google, and found some more exercises. I checked crossfit and found a link to another site, and another... and eventually found plans to build a slosh tube... and soon Plyo Boxes will follow... We've been working out for nearly 2 months... I'm down to 335lbs, I'm up in what I'm lifting, my endurance is up universally on everything I do. We have 3-5 people showing up three times a week, which makes it nearly impossible for me to bail!

Anyhow, as to motivations, I find it incredibly motivating to feel this good. I find it incredibly motivating to yell at my friends and push them to work harder, to encourage them to better themselves, and to have them there pushing me to do the same.

This thing is absolutely evil, it starts relatively easy, the weight isn't stable at all! The workout was designed to hit all the major groups, and I think I accomplished this fairly well. I feel it in my shoulders, back, arms, legs and abs... I think the place I'll hurt worst is in the core of my body...

This should be great for my low back which is constantly a pain...

I glued it together last night, and put together a little workout for the guys tonight... I'm sure they'll all be cussing me by the time it's done!

So the quest to improve my phones experience has been ongoing, I've got apps for this, widgets for that, and protective covers for the other... up until today I hadn't needed Root. I wanted to post 3 pictures of the phone, and screenshots of my workspace within the phone for others to look at...

I downloaded ShootMe from the Market, and was greeted with "You need root to run this."

So I went to check out Unrevoked, and discovered that since I got my phone, they went from v1 to v3... and it's no longer a "run this and you may or may not have root" sorta thing, it fully roots your phone. It's not quite as simple as they say it is, and I'll reflect on that a little later, explaining how I ran the app and what I did to root the phone... but for now, I'll share what I was originally after...

Back, Front, and Lockscreens

The back of my phone is covered in a custom skin from Zagg.com, I uploaded the Horde logo and they shipped it to me custom printed. The wallpaper is the same image. The lockscreen is from LockBot Pro, I've got it setup to show a different lockscreen daily, it's fun, and reliable.

So, what apps do you see here, and why do I run them? That's the ultimate question...

I run Beautiful Widgets "Smaller Home" to allow me to have clock and weather in 4 tiles instead of 8... Battery Widget, Calendar Shortcut, Bluetooth and Wifi Widgets, Mail, Gmail, Handcent (SMS), Gtalk, an abcOrganizer folder of direct dial shortcuts, Voicemail, Tapatalk and my Profile Manager.

Astro is a handy file manager. Barcode Scanner is just what it says, and very useful for scanning QR codes (2d Barcodes) for getting Apps from surfing google. My Battle Net Authenticator... Grocery IQ is pretty slick for shopping, lets you make lists, scan barcodes, and know what it's going to cost when you hit the front of the store...

Corporate Bingo is a winner in meetings, Tricorder is a nifty toy that actually serves some purpose (specifically finding WIFI), Magic Marker is an electric etch-a-sketch, and Spark is totally useless, yet amusing.

One screen left is my daily agenda, one more left is a full calendar, and to the far left is where I store tools and rarely used apps.

So one screen to the right of my home you will find my frequently used apps, another screen right shows Media centric apps, and finally my toybox. Take a look at the screenshots, and anything you want more information on let me know and I'll get links or details posted!
